xx New Use for Mamiya Lenses
« Thread started on: Sep 20th, 2012, 10:06pm »

Thanks to forum member, Tom (aka Searcher) I have started discovering some significant new pricing information on Mamiya lenses.

Some Mamiya lenses are indeed getting pricier, as folks learn how well they work (with adapters) on some of the new generation digital cameras. I'm in the process of updating the pricing pages of my main web site.

I often use some of my NC and SX lenses on my Canon digital, and I am quite pleased with the results.

Is there any interest in a forum thread regarding this analog / digital combo use?

That is rather strange, I have only recently been looking for lenses but of the ones I have picked up I was able to pick most of them for a song. I do not however have the very rare lenses.

It's true that most Mamiya lenses have not increased much in the past several years. But the really nice ones - f/1.4 and f/1.7 - in whatever Mamiya brand, are hot. Not only do they have huge apertures, they are exquisite glass. Likewise some of their macro lenses, and super telephoto (600-800mm) regardless of maximum aperture.

Like anything else, the value also goes up when you're talking to a collector. I wouldn't pay more than anyone else for any 50mm Mamiya lens ... but I would (and did) bid like crazy for a 14mm CS lens, not so many years ago, paying almost $300 for a pristine one. I don't regret it, even though I'd seen them go for less.

If I remember correctly I paid $20 shipped for my 1.4. Sadly my dad sold his macro long before passing the NC1000 on to me, the last macro I was bidding on sold for $65. Now the screw on lenses I have noticed are far more expensive.

The threaded lenses are probably not all going to collectors, but to people who want to use them on their digital equipment.

There were an awful lot of 42mm threaded lenses made, for all kinds of cameras. The Mamiya ones are popular because they are a good value. Great glass/low price! wink

+ Lots of adapters available! grin
